Congratulations to team ownership groups who selected Russ Ortiz. Ortiz opened his season by earning a place in SLPL history, striking a homer to earn the first-ever bonus points ever awarded in Santa Lechuga Power League play. Ortiz only struck out two while pitching seven shutout innings, but his blast in the fourth inning earned 20 bonus points for several SLPL owners . . . That's good news to Susie Rochellle of the Sue's Zs, whose entire roster is composed of players with a 'Z' in their names. Her drafting strategy this year is bound to reap better results than her 2001 team, which wiped up the rear last year. That team, which she called the Susie Q's, included every Major League Player with a 'Q' in his name . . . The bad news for Susie is that he doesn't spell it Barry Bondz . . . Kudos to Jim Hicks for his own imaginative draft strategy. Each player on his "second team," the Fat Bastards, weighs at least 250 pounds. This at least ensures that Susie won't finish dead last again this year . . . A correction and apologies to Vince Livernois of Andes Warhol of Fame. In our first newsletter, we incorrectly stated that Scott Brown won the SLPL championship two years in a row. The record should reflect that Livernois staged a dramatic final-week comeback in the 2000 season to win the championship . . . Vince wins the Rube Furrow Award for Best Team Name with his inspired entry. Not far behind are Lon Gallagher's Charlie Don't Surf and Richard Livernois' Zapata's Zapatos . . . Tony "Pedregoso" Livernois has now posted updated standings on the web site (www.santa-lechuga.com) . . . If you haven't paid up yet, you can either send your cash or your check made out to Joe Livernois to him at (459 Echo Valley Road, Salinas, CA 93907) or pass the payment along to Tony. Herald employees can send their entry fees through interoffice mail. ©2002 Tony Livernois and Joe Livernois. All rights reserved. |
